For me, the HTML message body in Charles Habib's email was so
fouled up as to be unreadable. I grabbed the plain text version, which
also had some strangeness, and I made it mostly readable. There is still
something strange with the "printed +ACI-EL DEPT+ACI-", which
I am not sure how to fix. Anyway, for those interested in what he
was asking and who also saw a garbled message, there follows
my plain text version of what he wrote. Apologies if I changed
meaning anywhere.
Regards,
David V.

Subject: [inforoots] Looking for infos and instructions for IBM Trainer
withtubes
Hello,
i bought some time ago a carrying case labelled IBM with a board which
looks like a trainer/simulator for logic operations with tubes.
I think it would be a great way to explain to our students the origins
of computing...if i could get it to work again and knew how to use
Unfortunately even the IBM museum in Germany was not able to identify
it....
The only info i found was a small picture at SMECC (Southwest Museum of
Engineering,Communications and Computation)
showing the same unit wired http://www.smecc.org/computers.htm but SMECC
is also asking for infos
I would be extremely grateful if someone would help me
with any kind of explanations, infos etc regarding its
use. The description is as follows and pictures are
enclosed as attachement
Description IBM Test set plus 18 modules.
It is mounted in a wooden carrying case about 19 wide by 15 deep by 5
1/2 inches high.
On the sides of the case is printed +ACI-EL DEPT+ACI-. It looks like it
had the part number and type information. It's gone.
The board in bakelite has eight 9 pin sockets and one Octal socket
surrounded jacks.
There are plugs labled +-150v, -100v, -100R.
Near the front are a series of plugs with fuses labled -150v, -100v,
-75v, +-50v, +-75v, +- 150v.
Coming out of the left side is a cable with a 12 pin plug.
Under the tester are spaces with 18 plug-in modules.
One module is a diode block with clips for diodes.
One module has 2 5AL5 tubes. The other modules have single tubes.
There are 4 with 5964, 7 with 5844, 1 with 1684, 1 with 1680, 1 with
2d21 tubes.
Thanks so much
Kindest regards
Charles Habib
