[inforoots] 1130 Memories

While we're discussing the 1130...

In 1965, the Providence, RI, branch office hired a student from Brown
University to write support for attaching tape drives to the 1130. He
did this as a summer intern and completed the project before the fall
semester began. To the best of my knowledge, there was never a bug
reported with the programming that was done. A major user of the
support was AT&T (Ma Bell -- not its current apparition) and was a key
part of their billing system. I can't remember which model tape drives
were attached -- perhaps a 2401? Anyone remember?

I also gave a tour a couple of weeks ago and one member of it had
written a billing, inventory control, accounts receivables, and sales
analysis (BICARSA) for a customer although IBM did not intend the 1130
to be a commercial machine.

Regards, Bill
