A source of historical information on the Gavilan, the words used, and the
thinking at the time occurred to me as I woke up this morning.
>From very early on, a group of videographers from one of the San Jose
television stations regularly conducted interviews at the company.
Their intention was to create a documentary program along the lines of Tracy
Kidder's book, The Soul of a New Machine, based on the Gavilan experience. I
think they were targeting it for a Nova type PBS airing.
These tapes, if they still exist, would be a great asset for the Computer
History Museum.
As far as I know, the program was never completed, as I guess they wanted to
end on a slightly higher note than the Gavilan experience afforded, but it
seems likely that somewhere the video tapes of what they recorded still
exists.
I don't remember the details of who was making the documentary, if I ever
knew it, but Manny Fernandez might still remember.
Something for someone at the CHM to put on their "to do" list?
Peter
