Two things:

The "deep link" did not work, but the library one did.

He's been worried since 1999? I started getting really
worried the first time I tried to open a Word(tm)
document in the next version, Mid 1980s.

"Close, but no cigar", and then realized that my careful
preservation of old files on new media, in different
locations,  was only half the battle, and probably the
easier half.
