IBM's centennial on June 16 is approaching!
In recognition, here are two new IBM-produced videos:
1) The polished, fast-paced, 13-minute-long IBM Centennial Film: 100 X 100
- A century of achievements that have changed the world
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39jtNUGgmd4&NR=1
It includes the 1401 in its compendium of accomplishments.
2) The more geek-oriented, 30-minute IBM Centennial Film: They Were There
- People who changed the way the world works
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrhDaAmn5Uw
features folks like Fred Brooks (360), our very own 1401-volunteer Bill
Selmeier (http://ibm-1401.info/TeamBios.html#BillSelmeier) reminiscing on
bar codes, Mark Dean (PC-AT, last Almaden director), Patty McHugh (PC
motherboard), Greg Chaitin (801 compiler), Benoit Mandelbrot (fractals),
Homer Ahr (Apollo 13), Ron Glover (policy letter #4), Jason Wilkinson
(Sabre), Ralph Gomory (research VP 70-85), etc.. Its compelling
background music was composed by Phillip Glass.
IBM's main centennial web site is http://www.ibm.com/ibm100/us/en/
Enjoy,
- Robert
p.s. The 1401 video "A Century of Smart: The IBM 1401 (1959)" is still
