> CT&I is honoring its donors and its dedicated volunteers on 4
> November at 4PM at its new historic building at 321 Water Street. I
> hope that you'll able to join us for the event to recognize the
> veteran IBMers who make possible much of our progress.
>
> Members of the IBM 1440 team will be there throughout the afternoon
> and evening, so that you can check on their progress in restoring
> this 49.5 year old mainframe. We plan to celebrate the completion
> of the 1440 restoration sometime in 2011.
>
> After the Ribbon Cutting, the Blue Box Workshop will be open free to
> the public from 5-8 PM. The Blue Box, a Link flight trainer from
> WWII, is a terrific example of CT&I's three step strategy for making
> historic innovation real to 21st century visitors. First, find a
> significant historic device and restore its functionality. Second,
> build an interface that engages the visitor in the vintage
> technology. Third, offer a narrative that provides insight into the
> device's inner workings and context for the technological advance
> (s). For the Blue Box, we're testing the Step Two prototype; for the
> IBM 1440 we're in the middle of Step One.
>
> 321 Water Street is 2 blocks north of the Regency Hotel. There is
> plenty of parking in the two lots between the railroad trestles on
> both sides of Water Street.
>
> Hope to see you on the 4th!
